Ten years of transformation
In 1999, crime and vandalism were rife in Birmingham's self-proclaimed slum quarter. People were in despair. Could a pioneering new housing association turn things around? This ten year anniversary brochure tells their story.
Lee Bank used to be one of Britain's most notoriously run down council estates. Residents were queuing to get out. Today it's a thriving mixed development, and they're queuing to get in. Trawling through the archives, talking to Optima staff and residents and writing the copy for this inspiring project was a privilege.
